Christian Lood received his PhD at University of Lund, Sweden, in 2012. He is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine, as well as Herndon and Esther Maury Endowed Professor of Rheumatoid Arthritis, Division of Rheumatology, University of Washington. He is also lead scientist and steering committee member of the Juvenile Myositis Center of Excellence at Seattle Children’s Hospital. The main interest of his lab is in the innate immune response to self-antigens and its consequences on inflammation and organ damage as occurs in autoimmune disorders, including myopathies. The current focus of his laboratory is on the role of neutrophils and neutrophil-derived biomarkers in autoimmunity and inflammation. Identifying underlying pathogenic mechanisms involving neutrophil activity in disease may identify targetable pathways for therapy development, as well as biomarkers to monitor and predict disease progression.
