I have established expertise in studies of skeletal myogenesis in humans and murine and avian models. My research has uncovered transcriptional and cell signaling pathways that control the developmental specification and differentiation of mesodermal and skeletal myogenic lineages in the developing embryo and regenerating muscle. Recent research includes studies of the molecular pathology of facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) and the development of satellite cell, iPSC and xenograft models to investigate human myogenesis and FSHD disease mechanisms and develop therapeutics.
