Bilal obtained his PhD in 2022 from University of Lausanne (Switzerland) in Prof. Romano Regazzi’s laboratory where he worked on the role of non-coding RNAs in pancreatic beta-cell function. He did his first postdoc in the lab of Dr Federica Accornero at the Ohio State University focusing on RNA modifications during heart failure. He then joined Dr Nizar Saad’s lab at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (Columbus, OH) in 2023, where he now explores the use of extracellular vesicles (EVs) both as diagnostic tools and potential gene therapy delivery vesicles in neuromuscular diseases. His current project focuses on identifying non-invasive circulating EV biomarkers for FSHD.
